Contacting Recruiters

I received this question from a staff speechwriter:  “I need to find another job.  Is there value in simply sending my resume (unsolicited) to a list of executive recruiters?”   

A respected recruiter shared this insight:  “It can’t hurt … but it’s best not to expect too much from cold mass mailings.   It’s always best to come in through a warm referral!”My advice to someone seeking a staff speechwriting job?  Concentrate your time … target your energy.   One “warm referral” is worth a thousand “cold resumes.”
